How to manage pain after decompression?

I had my decompression and dura on July 10th, 2013. I'm still in alot of pain and can't sleep. I am taking 2x percocet 10/325 every 4 hours. I am wondering what other peoples doctors prescribed them once out of the hospital to manage their head and neck pain?

I was on oxycodone 10's after surgery which is similar to percocets only there is no acetaminophen in the straight oxycodone, which is *easier* on the liver. I was on those 3 to 4 weeks after surgery and was also prescribed to take 2 at a time every 4 hours. Also 1500mg of robaxin every 4 hours and was on those for 2 weeks after surgery.

My surgeon does not prescribe any pain medications after 2 weeks. However my PCP kept my on lortab 10/500 and i can take one or two every 3 to 4 hours with no more then 6 a day. I have weaned down to 2 to 3 a day now. (17 weeks post op but have had ongoing issues since surgery which is why i am still on pain medication)

I also still take flexoril every night.

You should really follow up with a pain management specialist. I have taken every medication known to man for severe chronic pain. Everyone reacts differently to pain. I had an extreme situation but I took Dilaudid for 6 weeks post surgical. Most Chiarians take hydrocodone, tylenol 3, anti inflammatories, muscle relaxers. It varies per patient. Definitely check into finding a pain specialist. They are a God Sent. I have had nerve blocks, steroid injections and ablation therapy, pressure point injections as well as medications. Good Luck. Please let me know if you need help finding one in your area.

Thank You all for replies. I haven’t been able to make a bowel movement in 7 days I’ve taken magnesium citrate and milk of magnesia. its been 7 days no still haven’t been able to go, does anybody have any advice what I could do to have a bowel movement. sorry for the details.

My son had decompression today. I'm so grateful for all the info and personal experiences! It helps me understand what to expect.

Regarding bowel issues, try casada sagrada. It's an all natural product.

I had my surgery on July 11th. I’m taking hydrocodone every 6 and valium every 8hrs. I’m still in a good bit of pain (which is why I’m up at 5:30 in the morning). I really try to bit the bullet during the day and instead of taking the hydrocodone take extra strength tylenol so I can be functional. As long as I stay a little active (sitting at the table or walking outside for a min) the pain usually isn’t too bad. The pain is definitely worse for me at night and in the mornings, after Ive been still for a long period of time.
