We are patients and survivors of Chiari (types I-IV), here for your support.
Over the last year or so, I've been waking up on a daily basis with a very bad cough. I would spend the first 45 minutes to an hour of my morning standing in the shower, feeling like I was going to cough out part of a lung. I saw an allergist a couple of times, and was told that it was basically the result of a "nasal drip".
Months of Zyrtec use and a couple of expensive prescriptions later, and I'm still hacking like crazy. Only now, it's more frequently.
Within the last month or so, all I have done is cough. At first I thought I was coming down with a cold. Then, after a few days, I noticed that I didn't have any other symptoms. When I sat for a second and paid attention to what was going on, I realized that it felt like something was constantly stuck in the back of my throat. It was like the last bit of food from my last meal never went down completely.
Over the last couple of weeks, my voice has become extremely hoarse. I sound like Kathleen Turner (circa 2008, not 1988).
I'm also having a difficult time swallowing. This morning, I coughed, and something "popped" on the left side of my neck. It felt like it was a tendon or something. At this point, it hurts to even speak.
I happened across Dr. Oro's site a couple of days ago, and noticed a description of my throat issues listed on his symptoms page. I had no idea that this could be associated with Chiari, too.
My neuro still thinks that the bulk of my symptoms are associated with Type II Diabetes. I received the results from my blood work yesterday. My A1C was 6.6 a year ago. Last March, it had inexplicably jumped to 9.7, making me an insulin dependent diabetic. I haven't been taking any insulin as directed. I haven't changed my diet. I haven't even been checking my blood sugar. My A1C three months ago was 8.8. Last week it registered at 7.7. My diabetes is somehow correcting itself on it's own. Figure that one out.
I now have nearly two dozen symptoms, and yet cannot find a single medical professional that is willing to help me out.
This is getting beyond old.
