first my now 3 yr od had chiari decompression surgery on nov 8 of ast year and everything looks... fine we went to her ns for a follow up appt last thursday and she didnt like her swellingso the did a CT scan to see if she had a build up of spinal fluid and they called that afternoon with the results (no fluid build up!!!!!) and said we will do an MRI in 5 months if the swelling dosent go down but that it should sometimes it just takes a really long time...i was wandering if anyone else had this problem??? And my other question was does anyone know how i can find out when and where the chiari walks are being held in my community because i would love to do it....thanks

Comment by Christine on February 2, 2012 at 4:31pm Hi Dawn. So good to hear that your baby doesn't have fluid build up. Thank goodness! A repeat MRI in 5 months is good. Then you'll be able to see if there are any changes. How is she doing? Happy and playing I pray.
I am 5 months post op and still have swelling and I do have fluid build up aka pseudomenningocele, This is an abdormal build up of fluid from the dura (covering of the brain) when I had surgery. They said I must have had a CSF leak. I've been told pretty continuously that this is normal post op recovery and that 5 months post is still pretty early in the recovery stage. I feel awful and I sure hope this is correct.
Just keep a close eye on her as I know you will. Kids are resilent and I'm sure she is going to recover nicely.
Keep us posted.
