Chiari Malformation - Online Support Group
We are patients and survivors of Chiari (types I-IV), here for your support.
This is a group for anyone who has had chiari and went to or is going to school with it that way we can share our stories and ways to cope with the stress of school and our chiari. And just vent about it all when we need to ;D

Comment by CodieLeigh on March 25, 2012 at 11:26pm I am a Sophomore in high school. I hid my pain from pretty much everyone for a long time even though on the inside I felt awful. My mom made me stop going to school in November because I would wake up and try to get ready but I would be crying the whole time. Im now doing school from home but it is still very hard most days because my headaches are so bad.

Hi Guys !!! We have started a Kids with Chiari Group. You can belong to Multiple Groups & this one is brand new. So please check it out if you are a Kid..... : )
Comment by Kaleigh Rae Christmas on March 21, 2012 at 1:06am I was diagnosed with Chiari when I was 15 a sophomore in High School, the year of 2009. I am now a freshman in college, and my chiari still effects my school work, and how I perform in school. Looking down for a long period of time, and writing with my right hand, has caused major cramping in my neck, and my right arm to be numb. I had my decompression surgery in 2010 and things got better for a short amount of time, but things got back to normal. I have to wear a sling to school, to keep my neck and arm positioned just rite.
Comment by Christy Mullen on March 9, 2012 at 4:49pm I'm getting ready to graduate with my AA degree and next fall start the Respiratory Therapist program for 2 more years. I was diagnosed 1/2 through this semester and I graduate this May. I was actually told I should drop this semester and concentrate on my health...I do not want to stop going to school. I am 36 now...would I ever go back

Comment by Kirstie on March 1, 2012 at 5:46pm I am in 7th grade, and I have Chiari malformation. I have had it since late September of 2011. I have had surgery, and I am so glad that someone made a group for young adults in school. :) I may be a bit young, but I am a little more mature than most people my age. :)
Comment by Megan's Mom on February 23, 2012 at 2:02pm My daughter is a freshman in high school. She has had many problems even staying in school because of pain but her teacher have been very helpful and are working with her. The teachers let her stay in one class if she needs to and they allow her extra time to get from one class to another. Her P.E teacher lets her do what she wants during p.e. The school is very understanding to the needs of my daughter and they do what they can to keep her in school and caught up on school work. Now that she has had her surgery we are hoping that she will be able to stay in school more.
