Thanks.

Have these doctors diagnosed you with chairi I with a 3mm? I am tired of seeing doctors who only think you have chiari I if you have 5mm.

The Chiari comes from the cerebellar tonsillar ectopia extending below the foramen magnum. You have Chiari if it extends 3mm. Anything extending below is not normal. I had someone read my MRI that tried to tell me the same thing. My doctor explained it to me. My symptoms are bad. I do not know exactly what my mm is, my report reads, "a few mm", so I assume it's around 3.

Ask them how many is a few mm.  Gosh, that is crazy!  Most radiologist should measure it, they have the instruments for doing so.

I am only 3 mm, but my symptoms were significant enough that my neurosurgeon performed the surgery.

Hi,

Did you have any CSF blockage? Are your symptoms gone now?  Could you please message me the name of your doctor? Thanks!

I am at 5.6mm and the stupid NS at the naval hospital wont help me, they don't seem to care about my symptoms, they are like well it isnt 6 so it must be something else... UGH!

Stefanie- You should see a NS that is experienced with Chiari. Most doctors lack sufficient knowledge about Chiari. There are lists of patient recommended doctors...You can find links on our resources and doctors page. The NS that diagnosed me said that my 4mm herniation and syrinx were too small to be causing my symptoms. I was finally able to see a specialist and it was a completely different experience. He actually listened to me and took my symptoms seriously! Have you had a full spine MRI and a CINE MRI? The full spine MRI checks for syrinxes and the CINE MRI measures your flow of cerebral spinal fluid or lack there of. I know how frustrating and discouraging it is when your doctors don't listen or take you seriously. I hope you get the care you need soon!

I dont have the option with my insurance and I don't know what to do. I am already so broke because I have missed several days of work, I can't deal with this anymre, I am scared

I have had those MRI's, im am in the hands of than naval hospital

I'm so sorry you're going through all that:( I feel your pain...I use to work 70 hours a week and now I'm lucky if I make it through 1-2 days a week. I have accumulated a ridiculous amount of medical bills in the last 5 years! I don't have personal experience with Tri-Care, but you should still be able to appeal. I've known people that were able to go out of network to see a specialist. TracyZ use to work for an insurance company. She is very sweet and happy to help:) She may be able to give you some helpful tips. I wish I could be more help.
